About Me
This site is a chronicle of life as I develop, and it grows around me. Since 2009 I’ve been living an location independent lifestyle and for at least a couple of years before that, I’ve been striving towards a minimalist lifestyle. Minimalism – it has recently been overused and misunderstood, I feel. I hesitate to even put this on the site because it’s a label that probably isn’t necessary, but it does reflect my current philosophy. My Life Life is about living, the collection of experiences and memories that are best had when they’re shared. My goals include developing a lifestyle that is not dependent on any particular location so as to allow me to pursue any personal dreams and aspirations, as I see fit. To achieve this requires a shift in world view away from the contemporary need for things. Things are important. But not all things are equally so. We serve ourselves best when we prioritise those things (people) in our lives that are most important. Rather, those that are critical. The rest are nice, but in-general superfluous. Disposable. Travel With Paulie
Are you…? … a keen traveler, or would like to be? … interested in adding an extra dimension to your travels such as volunteering, to make it all a little more meaningful and worthwhile? Me too! This site is dedicated to chronicling my experiences that began in January 2010 – a mission to travel around different parts of the earth while partaking in free or minimal fee-based volunteering projects. The Why? After 6 years working in the 9-to-5 rat-race in Japan, I realised that instead of ‘working for the man’, I wanted to work for those who needed a helping hand in lifting themselves up from the gaping maws of poverty. After reading several books such as ‘Leaving Microsoft to Change the World’, ‘Vagabonding’, and ‘Banker to the Poor’, I knew I had to dedicate at the very least some of my energies to travel and helping those who just needed help to help themselves. The How? This journey is one of ignorance and exploration and growth – I have no idea what to expect while I’m out there, and how exactly I will find the sorts of the projects I’m looking for. I don’t want to pay exorbitant “voluntourism”…
